Shree Devi Talab Mandir Main Entrance
History
It is said in the Puranas that Maa Sati immolated herself after her father Daksha insulted her husband Lord Shiva. This enraged Lord Shiva and he opened his terrible third eye and took the body of his beloved Sati in his arms and performed a fierce Tandava dance on earth.
The other Gods were afraid that the wrath of the Lord would destroy the universe and thus they sought the help from Lord Vishnu, who sent his almighty Sudarshan Chakra to cut Sati's body into pieces. Every place where a part of Maa Sati's body was found became a place of worship for devotees of the Goddess over the ages. Each of these places is revered as a Shakti Peetha, also known as Shaktas, by devotees of the Goddess. Devi Talab Temple has the distinction of being one of the 51 major Shaktipeeths of the subcontinent. This temple marks the spot where the right breast of Maa Sati was blessed.
